In an ex-mining community in County Durham, Ballantyne struggles to keep his pub going. Tensions rise when Syrian refugees arrive, but Ballantyne befriends one of them, Yara, a young woman desperate for news of her imprisoned father. These two join forces to unite two traumatised communities.
